PC Welcomes New Blackshear Elementary Admin Team

The school district is proud to announce the hiring of Dee Treadwell as principal along with Michelle Strickland and Rachel Tyre as assistant principals for Blackshear Elementary.

Blackshear Elementary Principal Dee TreadwellMrs. Treadwell has a bachelor’s, master’s, and educational leadership in middle grades education from Valdosta State University. She is also gifted and curriculum certified. She taught one year in Rex before coming to Pierce County. She was selected as teacher of the year at Pierce County Middle School in 1994 and 2005. Next, she was an instructional coach at Midway Elementary for three years before moving to Blackshear Elementary where she served as an instructional coach for two years and assistant principal for three years. Mrs. Treadwell and her husband, Blake, have three children, Erica, Alex, and Lance.



Blackshear Elementary Assistant Principal Michelle StricklandMichelle Strickland earned her bachelor’s in early childhood education from Georgia College and State University. She earned her master’s in educational leadership at Troy State and her specialist degree in education leadership from Valdosta State University. She has taught K-5 including special education for 12 years and was an instructional coach for English/Language Arts for four years. She served as assistant principal at Ben Hill Primary School in Fitzgerald for a year. She has been the teacher education instructor for the high school and Coastal Pines Technical College through the Dual Enrollment Program. Michelle’s husband, Jason, is the head football coach for the Bears. 


Blackshear Elementary Assistant Principal Rachel TyreRachel Tyre started her teaching career at PCMS as a student teacher. She was a teacher in the Wayne County School System for ten years where she taught math, science, and social studies in grades 3-6. Mrs. Tyre earned a Bachelor's Degree in middle grades education from Valdosta State University. She has a Master's Degree in education from Troy University as well as an Educational Specialist degree in early childhood education from Georgia Southern University. Then, Mrs. Tyre earned a leadership degree from Valdosta State University. She is currently pursuing her doctorate degree from Valdosta State University. Mrs. Tyre and her husband, Will, have two children, Sammy and Emilia.
