Value Promise Statement

Goethe stated," Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least."  For those of us in education, what is more important than learning and making our learning visible to others? As your Superintendent, I promise to be the lead learner of our system and use the experiences and expertise that I have developed as a teacher, peer leader, and principal to create a culture that encourages honesty, trustworthiness, collegiality, and respect. I promise to be a lover of leading and learning. I will lead by example and grow with you professionally and personally. "One can't lead where one won't go. "

I promise to have high expectations for students and teachers and provide you with the time, resources, processes, and services to support teaching and learning.   I promise to challenge you, work with you, laugh with you, and cry with you to accomplish what is necessary to become a system of excellence.

As your system leader, I will share more of myself. I will unselfishly give of my time and talents to network to the public on behalf of our district. I will be creative in finding the resources that are necessary to make our school environment conducive to learning.   I promise to be an advocate for our students and teachers and never ask you to do anything that I would not do myself.

As Carl Jung stated," The trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk everything."  I believe that there is a connection between leading, learning, and risk-taking.    As a result, I promise to encourage you to take risks and embed it in the culture of our system.  I will be there with you to celebrate the successes, defend you, and protect you when there are failures.

I promise to have a clear vision and mission that puts students first. I promise to instill this vision in the minds of all stakeholders and promise to put it in practice everyday.  I promise to involve you in the decisions that are made on behalf of our faculty and staff.

As your leader, I am committed to the teachers, students, and parents of the Pierce County School System. By being open to learning from teachers and acknowledging it, I hope that together we can create an enriching environment that provides the best educational experiences for our students.  As Roland Barth states," Discover your work and give your heart to it," and that is what I intend to do.
